You have to set your goals at an early age. I always knew that I wanted to be involved with youth, but I never had a plan for it. My childhood life was similar to some of my student's lives at Jefferson Elementary School in Warren, Ohio. Before I started school, I was called and labeled an "at risk" student.
My family moved back and forth from "Chicago to Alabama." With the constant moving, I started school later than I should have. By the time I was in the 3rd grade, I was behind in my studies. My mother was not happy with that, so she held me back.
There's an old saying that held true for me, "It takes a community to raise a child". My 4th grade through 5th grade years of school, I lived off and on with the "Pulliam Family." From 6th grade until I graduated from high school, I lived off and on with the "Allen Family". I eventually graduated high school when I was 20 years old.
One day, my high school football coach, Gene Taylor, pulled me aside and gave me the best gift I could ever receive. He gave me a plan! He connected me to a junior college, so I could follow my dreams of playing football and go to college.
I went on to play football at a West Hills Junior College. I started to focus on my studies because I knew what I wanted to be and what I had to do to get there. I earned a scholarship to play football at Youngstown State University. I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree and moved to Colorado to be what I always wanted to be, a teacher.
Throughout my life journey, I meet amazing people doing amazing things. From attending school, I have made friendships that will last a life time. My nonprofit is named "Team Sanders", but it should really be named "Team Family". Everyone that is a Team Member or Director with TSI has the same goals as me. We all want to help YOU achieve your goals!

Teaching the youth just facts is not enough. We need to mold their minds to become thinkers and give them the tools that help them become achievers.
